Waterjet Cutting Service

SUDACNC provides universal CNC waterjet cold cutting service including abrasive hard material cutting and pure water soft material cutting. Operating at ultra-high 60,000–90,000 PSI pressure mixed with garnet abrasive, our waterjet system physically erodes materials without any heat generation, fully avoiding thermal deformation, oxidation and edge hardening issues common in laser & plasma thermal cutting. We process reflective aluminum, copper, brass, titanium alloy, thick steel plate, glass, ceramic, carbon fiber composite and foam plastic, delivering uniform burr-free matte edges for aerospace, medical, machinery, architectural and electronic custom blank orders, with complete downstream sheet metal processing in-house.

What Is Abrasive Waterjet Cutting?

Waterjet cutting is a pure cold mechanical cutting process without thermal energy input. Ultra-high-pressure water stream mixes garnet abrasive particles to grind and separate solid materials under CNC digital control, no melting, burning or chemical reaction occurs during cutting.

Unlike laser and plasma thermal cutting that create heat-affected zones, waterjet produces zero HAZ, preserving original material tensile strength, hardness and internal molecular structure. It is the only cutting technology compatible with both highly reflective conductive alloys and non-conductive brittle non-metals, capable of cutting plate thickness up to 100mm. The smooth uniform cutting edges eliminate heavy secondary grinding, making it the top choice for heat-sensitive, high-precision composite and thick alloy custom blanks that cannot be processed by laser or plasma cutting equipment.

Two Core Waterjet Cutting Modes: Abrasive & Pure Water Cold Cutting

Our CNC waterjet equipment supports dual cutting modes switched automatically according to customer material types: abrasive garnet waterjet for hard dense metals, stone and composite plates; pure high-pressure waterjet for soft flexible foam, rubber and thin plastic sheets. Entire cutting process generates zero heat, eliminating all thermal defects including warpage, edge hardening, oxidation discoloration and composite layer delamination, perfectly solving processing bottlenecks of reflective alloys, brittle glass and heat-sensitive materials that laser & plasma cannot handle.

Unique Strengths Of Our In-House Waterjet Cutting Lines

  • Dual Cutting Mode Switch: Abrasive for hard solids; pure water for soft flexible materials, one machine covers all substrate types
  • 100% Zero HAZ Cold Processing: No thermal stress, retain raw material tensile, fatigue and corrosion resistance properties
  • Reflective Alloy Compatibility: Copper, brass, aluminum, titanium without laser reflection burn-through failure risk
  • Ultra-Thick Single Pass Cutting: Up to 100mm one-time cutting without multi-layer stacking or repeated machining
  • Seamless Downstream Fabrication: Waterjet blanks directly flow to deburring, bending, welding and coating stations without cross-factory transit

Abrasive Waterjet VS Pure Waterjet Cutting Introduction

1. Abrasive Garnet Waterjet Cutting (AWJ)

  • Cutting medium: 60,000–90,000 PSI high-pressure water + 80/120 mesh garnet abrasive
  • Applicable materials: All metals, stainless, aluminum, copper, titanium, carbon fiber, glass, ceramic, marble stone
  • Max single pass thickness: 100mm solid alloy & stone plate
  • Core advantages: Smooth uniform matte cutting surface, no dross, no oxidation, zero thermal deformation

2. Pure Waterjet Cutting (No Abrasive)

  • Cutting medium: Ultra-high pressure pure water stream without garnet abrasive
  • Applicable materials: Foam, rubber, gasket, soft plastic, textile, thin food-grade flexible substrates
  • Max thickness: 30mm soft lightweight materials
  • Core advantages: No abrasive residue contamination, clean non-damaged soft material edges, low post-cleaning cost

Complete Metal & Non-Metal Materials Compatible With Waterjet Cold Cutting

Waterjet is the only universal cutting technology supporting reflective conductive alloys, heat-sensitive composites and brittle non-conductive substrates simultaneously without thermal damage or equipment reflection risk.

Mild carbon steel, galvanized steel, wear-resistant NM400 plate, stainless steel 201/304/316L, titanium alloy Grade 5, nickel-based high-temperature alloy

Abrasive waterjet eliminates thick plate laser thickness limitation; zero HAZ prevents stainless steel edge passivation failure and titanium thermal brittling defects.

Aluminum 5052/6061/7075, pure copper C110, brass C2600/C36000, bronze, magnesium alloy thin sheets & thick plates

High reflectivity causes laser beam rebound and equipment damage; cold waterjet physical erosion completely avoids reflection issues and thin aluminum sheet thermal warpage.

Acrylic PMMA, clear optical glass, ceramic tile, marble stone, carbon fiber CFRP, FR4 fiberglass, foam rubber, silicone gasket, MDF wood board

Laser thermal cutting melts, burns or cracks brittle non-metals; pure/abrasive waterjet cold cutting retains original material texture without edge carbonization or cracking.

Material & Thickness Matching Consultation For Waterjet Cutting Projects

Waterjet Cut Post-Processing Deburring & Pre-Coating Surface Treatments

Waterjet edges feature minimal micro burrs compared to plasma cutting; automatic tumble deburring removes tiny abrasive residue particles, rotary edge rounding to R0.5~R2.0mm safe smooth edges for assembly handling, eliminate scratch risk during bending & welding.

High-pressure water wash to remove garnet abrasive residual dust; stainless steel passivation anti-rust treatment; solvent degreasing to eliminate surface oil contamination before welding or powder coating operations.

Uniform sand blasting matte surface treatment improves powder coating and liquid paint adhesion; chemical polishing for decorative stainless steel & brass waterjet cut signage parts.

Custom Deburring & Surface Prep Add-On Service For Waterjet Blanks

Critical DFM Design Rules To Avoid Waterjet Cutting Taper & Rework Defects

2D Drawing Design Feature Waterjet Cutting Mandatory Design Rule
Internal Hole Minimum Diameter≥1.5 × sheet material thickness; minimum stable 1.0mm thin plate hole
Narrow Slit Minimum Width≥1.2mm minimum; slits narrower than kerf width cause material bridging & incomplete cutting
Inner Sharp CornersAdd minimum R0.8 fillet radius; zero-radius sharp corners generate obvious jet taper distortion on thick plates
Thick Plate Taper CompensationPlates over 20mm generate slight entry-exit jet taper; reserve tolerance allowance for mating assembly surfaces
Material Border MarginReserve ≥1.2× thickness blank margin around all parts to reduce sheet vibration cutting deviation
Thin Long Rib FeaturesNarrow ribs below 1.5mm easily vibrate during cutting; add connection support tabs in nesting layout to stabilize flatness
