3 axis machines move along X, Y, Z. 5 axis machines add A and B rotation, allowing tool access to 5 sides of a part in one setup. This enables complex undercuts, curved surfaces, and 3D contours impossible with 3 axis.

Use 5 axis for complex 3D shapes, undercuts, multi-sided parts, high-precision components, molds, turbine blades, medical implants, and parts requiring extreme accuracy.

5 axis has higher machine cost but saves time by reducing setups and manual work. For complex parts, it is often MORE cost-effective than multiple 3-axis operations.

STEP, IGES, STL, SLDPRT, X_T, 3DM, CATPart, and other 3D CAD formats. 3D surface data is required for 5 axis programming.
